WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SEMESTER?

Many of us did not know and do not still seem to know that there is a most important semester. Anyway, this fact does not apply to ‘staylites’ (200 level to 400 level students) anymore but ‘freshers’ (100 level students). The reason is simply found in the answer to this question; that is, ‘the most important semester is FIRST SEMESTER of 100 LEVEL. However, this is a time when students generally might not score very high because they are still new into the system and do not know what they should early (it happened to me). There is a secret I need to let you in on fast, ‘if you cannot make a first class G.P.A (4.5 to 5.0) or at worst a high second class upper G.P.A. (4.0 to 4.4) in your first semester of 100 level, forget the idea of graduating with a FIRST CLASS DEGREE’, it is better you aim at graduating with a high second class upper degree. Please, I am not trying to discourage you; I am only telling you what they did not tell us. This is the bitter truth and the earlier you understand it, the better for you. If you can carefully study the analysis of how to calculate your G.P.A and C.G.P.A. again, you would understand what I am saying. The most important semester is your first semester of 100 level because that is when your G.P.A does not get divided unnecessarily; and the higher your first G.P.A. is, the better it is for maintaining a first class degree.

To prove this as a fact, let us use Francis’ performance as an example again. His G.P.AS would remain the same but we would change his first semester-100 level G.P.A from 4.77 to 3.66 and then check the impact such would have on his overall graduating C.G.P.A.

First semester-100 level
3.66
Second semester-100 level
4.66
First semester-200 level
4.55
Second semester-200 level
4.66
First semester-300 level
4.66
Second semester-300 level
4.55
First semester-400 level
4.55
Second semester-400 level
4.66
Total C.G.P.A
(3.66+4.66+4.55+4.66+4.66+4.55+4.55+4.66) / 8
Graduating/overall C.G.P.A
4.49 (Second class upper)

Do you see what I am trying to show you? Francis would have slipped from a 4.63 to a 4.49 (as an overall graduating C.G.P.A) if his 100 level- first semester G.P.A (alone) was a 3.66 instead of a 4.77. Of course, a 3.66 G.P.A. is not a bad grade (that is a second class upper grade); but it would have stopped Francis from graduating with a first class if he ever had such a grade in his 100 level- first semester. So, your foundation is key; start very well (if first class is your aim). And why not? This is the major reason for this website; to acquaint you in proper time with the necessary knowledge of how to perform best with less stress and anxiety. Ignorance, they say, is a disease. However, you would be the same with someone who never knew this fact, if you do not act on it. So, ACT NOW if you must get that wonderful result you dream of. It is very possible; and this leads us to the next point.
