A SPECIAL ADVICE TO DIPLOMA STUDENTS
This advice which I am about to give is a very special one and it is especially dedicated to diploma students as well as evening students (most especially diploma students).
I have become aware of a particular attitude amongst most diploma students which I believe is caused by ignorance. To begin with, philosophy as a course is not bread and beans that one could easily manoeuvre or play with. It is a real discipline that demands a lot of one’s mental abilities. But, as if it is a child’s play, I notice that some diploma students tend to believe that philosophy is an easy cake. Due to this they tend to isolate themselves from the larger whole. They tend to keep to themselves out of what seems like pride or ignorance or maybe superiority complex. From experience, the result of such an attitude is that they tend to perform poorly, semester by semester till it gets to a point that they realize that they need to associate with the larger whole (other philosophy day students).
So, as a fellow philosophy student with positive concerns, I advice that from the very start of one’s study in philosophy, try to make sure you are social and associate with other philosophy day students (even if it is just one person). The truth is, as time goes on, you would need their help and if you are in isolation you would not find it easy. Even those whom are the very intelligent ones (amongst the day students) have study groups; they do not perform in isolation.
So, endeavour to be a friend to someone who you think could be more intelligent than you or whom you believe could be of a great help to you (even if such a person is of the opposite sex). The truth is, if you follow this advice, you would become better off. You would have less regrets because the truth is that, If you refuse to associate wilfully in the beginning, you would forcefully associate with others in the end, and it might be too late as your G.P. would have been drastically affected. So;
...don’t start like this
...and end up like this
So, be wise...
